Postdoctoral fellow in philosophical logic and the philosophy of logic - Ref. No. 2026/10

We seek a postdoctoral fellow to join the Czech Science Foundation project “Substitution in Material Inference and Logical Environments” (SIMILE), led by Dr. Wesley Fussner at the Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

SIMILE seeks to develop conceptual and mathematical-symbolic frameworks for understanding material inferences, which have emerged as a central topic inferentialist projects as in the work of Sellars, Brandom, and Peregrin, among others. One special focus of the project's work is substitution (and especially the failure of substitution invariance), which has long been known to play a central role in materiality. We are also interested in how materiality manifests in different reasoning contexts, such as in mathematical reasoning, and how materiality interacts with traditional concerns of metalogic.

Research fellow / postdoc in computational neuroscience - Ref. No. 2026/7

There is an open position for a research fellow / postdoc in computational neuroscience at the Institute of Computer Science under the supervision of Dr. Helmut Schmidt.

The position is part of the project “The Role of Long-Range Brain Connectivity in Human Language Processing” (ConnLingua), a collaboration between the Technical University Berlin, the Max-Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences (Leipzig), the Technical University Chemnitz, and the Institute of Computer Science in Prague.

The successful candidate will join a diverse team of researchers who work at the interface of neuroimaging and computational modelling of brain activity. The main task will be to build biologically plausible models of cortical circuits that are capable of performing syntactic operations. A strong focus will be on signal transmission between the different cortical regions of the language network via white matter fiber bundles, and on mean-field approaches in order to create simple and efficient models of neural activity. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the partners abroad to integrate the obtained models into larger computational frameworks and to explain electrophysiological observations from experiments.

Job Offer for a Computer Science Student: Implementation & Testing of AI Methods - Ref. No. 2026/1

Motivation: Implementation of deep neural networks (DNNs) on edge devices (e.g., smartphones) is energy demanding, therefore in error-tolerant applications (e.g., image recognition) DNN approximations are used (e.g., bit-width reduction for weight representation, network pruning), which significantly reduce energy consumption at the cost of acceptable accuracy degradation.
