Principal Investigator: prof. RNDr. Ladislav Kvasz, Dr.
ICS Coinvestigator: RNDr. Petra Vidnerová, Ph.D.
The project will attempt to answer the question of what makes knowledge relevant, credible, and acceptable, both in terms of models of human rationality and its limits and in terms of diversity and different forms of communication.
The project integrates the expertise and methods of several scientific disciplines (in particular philosophy, sociology, computer science, and history of science) to comprehensively analyse and explain the impact of new information technologies on scientific knowledge and social trust in expert knowledge.
The research agenda of the project is carried out in two research plans: the first research plan, "Science, Scientific Knowledge, and Disruptive Technologies," focuses on the analysis of the emergence, circulation, practices of sharing and use of scientific knowledge and the impact of modern technologies on the stability and disruption of these processes. The second research project, "Rationality and Logic for the Information Society," focuses on the philosophical, logical, and cognitive assumptions and limits of human rationality, the social role of critical thinking, and the analysis of the mechanisms that lead to the erosion of trust in science and the proliferation of conspiracy theories.
Ninety publicly accessible scientific publications will be produced with the project. A series of professional training events will be held to enhance the use of research results in further scientific practice and education. These will include methodological seminars for PhD students on the scientific use of AI tools, summer schools for university students, and the development of competencies in digital methods and tools in the humanities fields. Innovative methodological materials for teaching critical thinking in secondary schools will also be developed.
