Theory and Application of Relational Structures as Knowledge Instruments
Meeting of the COST Action 274
Prague, November 14.-16., 2002

CALL FOR PAPERS

The COST Action 274 (TARSKI) started in June 2001; its Prague meeting in 2002 will be the third. TARSKI is a broad interdisciplinary initiative. Participants' interests range over fields thus far apart as preference modelling, scaling methods, fuzziness and other soft computing, over work on physical phenomena such as spatial reasoning to more algebraical or logical considerations, often supported by implemented computational techniques.

One idea, however, binds all this research together: the use in some way or another of a relational structure and of relational methods to cope with these structures.

The chairman of TARSKI is Gunther Schmidt, the vice-chairman is Harrie de Swart. The Prague meeting will be mainly focused to working areas WA1 (Algebraic and logical foundations of real world relations, coordinator: Ewa Orlowska) and WA3 (Relational scaling and preferences, coordinator: Marc Roubens). But as usual, room will be given to all scientific aspects of the TARSKI Action and to important related topics. Participation on the meeting is not limited to members of the TARSKI Action; participants from outside are welcome and may submit papers. (It is expected that the total number of participants will be about 40.) There will be about 2 invited speakers (one speaking on theoretical aspects of data mining and knowledge discovery, another one on scaling and preferences); their names will be specified later. The Czech TARSKI group will present theory and implementations of the GUHA method of automatic generation of hypotheses and its position in (relational) data mining.

Participation is not limited to members of TARSKI. Talks may be presented by members of TARSKI and also by some other scientists recommended by chairs of working areas. Send abstracts of proposed talks (half page or so) to hajek@cs.cas.cz till October 1; you will be informed on acceptation (rejection) till October 15. The Programme Committee consists of P. Hajek, E. Orlowska, M. Roubens.

Note that arrival day is November 13; presumably most participants will leave on Sunday, November 17.
